That’s right. An actual US Navy Barracks in Coronado, California just outside of San Diego. is shaped like a swastika when seen from the air. Here’s a link to a Google map view of it. All you need to do is click on the ‘x’ in the white balloon to get rid of it and then zoom in on the little green pointer. As you get closer in the shape of the building becomes obvious.
When I first read about this I couldn’t help thinking I am not a hamster, surely they actually look at building plans before they authorize construction and would spot something like this and insist on the design being altered but no, it turns out that the navy knew about this in 1967 when they were breaking ground for the structure. (Which means that nobody REALLY looked at the plans did they?) At the time they didn’t figure it would matter much because it wasn’t obvious from the ground. I wonder about that though, it seems to me that people ought to notice something after seeing four ‘L’ shaped buildings that meet in the center. Sorta gives you a little clue into the architect’s political leanings doesn’t it?
