It’s 8-8-08 and the Olympic games are getting underway (in spite of China’s continuing to be a world leader in censorship and human rights violations) and what’s in the news? A whole bunch of screaming headline “Breaking News” emails about how former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards comes clean in an interview with ABC news and admits that he had an extramarital affair in 2006.
First off, Why do they have to dress it up and call it an extramarital affair? I am not a hamster, cheating is cheating and if the guy’s been taking side trips off the campaign trail to his favorite Outer Banks rentals or wherever else for some whoop-de-do with somebody not his wife, then just call a spade a spade and say he’s cheating on his wife.
Honestly, I don’t know which annoys me more, the fact that so many public figures and people in charge of things are involved in stuff like this or the fact that we’re now expected to go hunting up nice ways to say what it is they’re doing.
Maybe if there weren’t any nice ways to say things, at least some people would reconsider doing them?
