Paid vs Free

One of the many things that the Internet has touched and changed in a number of ways is dating services. There’s been all manner of dating and introduction services come and go over the years. Even today you still see them advertised on late night tv along with text message versions that have people furiously typing text messages to strangers on their cell phones. Being the skeptical person that I am, I’ve never thought that any of these “paid introduction services” and such-like are much more than an excuse for somebody to pocket people’s money. If there is any merit in this kind of thing at all it would be in free dating and introduction services.

I am not a hamster, I know that single folks everywhere would point to my left hand and say “but you’re married. That means you’re out of touch and things have changed.” However, the thing is that things haven’t really changed that much at all. People meet and interact with others and form relationships yadda yadda yadda. There is always people that, for whatever reason have difficulty in meeting or interacting with others and thus they need help.. more introductions, a ‘neutral’ environment in which to interact.. etc. In the long run the “services” that people spend loads of money on aren’t one bit better than other methods that don’t cost anything.
