Facebook Excrement - Relationship Falsehood

Posted by Non-Hamster on August 17th, 2012

This is the first post in a series that I'm going to call "Facebook Excrement" where I'll be taking to task various and sundry falsehoods and stupidities that I encounter on Facebook.  These are things that the people posting them actually believe are true in spite of the fact that many of them don't even make the first little bit of sense.

One of the ways that these little balls of excrement are passed on is in the form of pictures, usually with some cutesy graphic, covered with text.

In one such waste of bits I saw the following statement:

"If you aren't happy being single you will never be happy in a relationship.  get your own life and love it first, then share it.  Love when you're ready, not when you're lonely.

This statement is completely false.

It is every bit possible to be happy in a relationship when you are unhappy being single.  The author of this nonsense apparently failed to consider he possibility that people might just not like being single.  They might not be happy with the idea that they're essentially alone in the world and that being in a relationship would be the single most obvious cure for that problem.

The part about getting one's own life and loving it is also nonsense.

Everybody has their own life.  Even if that life is one that is lived alone because they are single.

Are they saying that I have to learn to love a situation that I despise before I am to be permitted the opportunity to change that situation?

If so, all I can say is "Bullshit!"

I will instead do the best I can to change the situation to one that is more to my liking.  I have no intention to nor would I ever expect anyone else to learn to love a situation that is so totally unacceptable.

Things like this make me wish that stupidity was physically painful to the person being stupid.  Perhaps then the rest of us wouldn't be nearly drowning in a flood of stupidities.
