How's This For 'Power Fashion'?

Posted by Non-Hamster on February 24th, 2008

Here's an interesting bit about technology.  Scientists have come up with technology involving "Nanowires" that would actually make it possible to make fabric that can generate enough electricity to power small devices or implants.  Before you decide that you need to grab the phone and get a life insurance quote before you get dressed in this stuff and walk out in the rain, we're not talking about a whole lot of power here.  They're hoping to generate 80 miliwatts per square meter of fabric.

80 milliwatts isn't much you say, but it's enough to power an IPod or similar low power device.  'Course they're also talking about "smart" and "interactive" clothing. <user shudders> I am not a hamster, no way do I want "interactive" clothing.  (besides, I'm not that into fashion)
