The weather is warming up in this backwoods part of the country. It's a welcome change after the freezing temps, the tornado, the torrential rains and the flooding that's followed. It's also just about time (as in it should be any day now) for the first sighting of a pet peeve of mine that's something of a rural fact of life... people riding around in pickup trucks with dogs running around loose in the bed of the truck.
I've never understood just why people do that. I mean, all they need to do is hit one bump in the road too hard or have to suddenly turn or accelerate in order to avoid something and the unfortunate dog could easily go flying. A real shame when it'd be so easy to do something about it. Even if you don't want to keep your traveling animals in aluminum dog boxes, you could at least come up with some kind of arrangement that will allow the animal some freedom, yet keep them restrained, protected from being sent flying, in the event of something unpredictable happening in traffic.
