faux wood blinds

Posted by Non-Hamster on July 26th, 2007

I'm wondering something.  Why is it that "faux" gets pronounced "foh"?  Oh, I know it's a french word that means false or fake...like fake wood blinds would be called faux wood blinds, Perhaps they could be called "imitation wood blinds", or even "synthetic wood blinds".  My personal preference is for real wood whenever possible but I understand that there's plenty of situations where imitation or "faux" is preferrable... like when you don't want to be concerned about humidity that can affect wood... then you call it "faux wood" to make it sound almost like a kind of wood rather than something artificial.
