Neighborhood Crop Circles

Posted by Non-Hamster on May 26th, 2008

My mentioning lawns in a recent post about puppies reminds me of something weird.  The house next to ours had the lawn mowed today.  This is in and of itself a strange thing in and of itself because that particular yard gets cut *maybe* twice a year.  This morning it was at the typical high point of about three and a half feet or more tall.  It's a good thing I am not a hamster because if I were I'd have gotten lost in that yard.

Today, a couple of guys showed up to cut the grass for the first time this year.  One older gent was wielding a weed eater at first and then switched to a standard gas powered push type mower for some of the yard near the street that's too steep for a tractor.

Later I saw his partner, a younger kid that was maybe 21 years old soaking wet, riding the tractor on the main part of the yard.... in a circle.

I watched with morbid fascination as the circle drew tighter and tighter, it's shape becoming more oval as he neared the center.  While he was doing this, the older guy was cleaning out the push mower.  As the tractor reached the center he started the push mower and cut a couple of rows across the side of the circle closest to the house.

The end result of this is that the grass in the yard looks very much like an CBS style eyeball, complete with a single heavy eyebrow.

What do you suppose Aliens would think if they saw that?

For that matter, what was the tractor kid thinking?
