Minority Majority?

Posted by Non-Hamster on August 9th, 2007

I'm absolutely convinced that a lot of editors don't stop to think about what a statement looks like before they allow it to be used as a headline. Take this one as a prime example:

Minorities Now Form Majority in One-Third of Most-Populous Counties

Nonwhites make up a majority in almost one-third of the
most-populous counties in the country and in nearly one in
10 of all 3,100 counties, according to an analysis.

I am not a hamster, you can't call something a minority if it's actually in the majority now can you?  Leastways, it's really ridiculous to try.  They'd have been better off with something like "Former Minorities Become Majority"
