Survey Says ... BS

Posted by Non-Hamster on August 12th, 2009

It's no secret that over the last several months I've been trying to get a successful online business of some kind going to help pay the avalanche of bills laying around here.  In the course of this search I've run into a LOT of schemes, most of which are utter BS.

One of the most mystifying of the bunch is the ones that claim that you can make hundreds of dollars a day taking surveys and that if you're really ambitious and spend a lot of time doing it you can be spending your summers in one of those fancy Myrtle beach vacation rentals and generally enjoying life in the form of one big long vacation where you only take a few hours a day to take some more surveys to keep the river of cash flowing.

The problem with this is that I am not a hamster and I'd have to be in order to believe all these outrageous claims.  Yes, there are survey outfits that will pay you to take surveys but what the schemers don't tell you is that most people will not qualify for most surveys.  Each one is targeted to a certain demographic and if you don't fit what they're looking for then they don't want to hear from you on that survey, thus no money.

Another thing is that payment for these surveys is, in my experience, very low.  On the order of $4.00 and $5.00 per survey.  That's if they pay money at all in the first place.  Most of the one's that I've seen pay you in some form of points that you can eventually redeem for stuff.  The thing is, the number of points needed for anything is generally high enough that you'd be better off to put $5.00 in a savings account every time you did a survey and just buy whatever it is when you've got enough.

Maybe there is one or more paid survey companies that pay significant amounts per survey and where it's easier to qualify for those surveys but I haven't found it yet and frankly I doubt that it exists.

I don't think for one second that anybody is ever going to make a significant income from taking surveys.  (by "significant", I'm talking about a consistent pay of at least $200.00 USD per week.)
