« A Trip Down Memory Lane Computers In The Movies »

I realize that this is in danger of being "old news" but I've just got to toss in my $0.02 worth anyway.  My first reaction on seeing this headline was something on the order of "Well, as if he didn't have a high enough opinion of himself before, now he's gonna need a truckload of the world's best diet pills in order to shrink his head down enough so that he can fit through a doorway!".  Later, after reading some of the stories about it, I find out that the Nobel people gave him the prize not because of anything he's done, but because of his stated plans and intentions!!

WTF is that?!?!? Since when does a person's plans and / or intentions qualify them for something like this??  If that's the case, then I guess next year I will be getting the Nobel prize in physics because I fully intend to be the first person to figure out how to travel faster than light.

Now I am not a hamster, I know how ridiculous that is but it's no more ridiculous than giving Obama a peace prize because of what he intends or plans to do!  Those awards have (I thought) always been based on a persons accomplishments, not what they plan or intend to do, whether they have the ability to achieve those plans or not.

Now if he actually DOES something that results in a major step forward in world peace, then fine, give him the award but how about we do something really obvious and wait until he actually does it before handing out Nobel prizes for it.
